The Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacognosy is one of the key departments in the School of Pharmacy, Maseno University. It came into being in 2014 to offer Pharmacology courses to the MBChB with IT programme, both in the preclinical and clinical years of study.

This mandate has expanded overtime to include teaching of the BSc. Nursing students and lately B.Pharm students. The department spearheaded the development of the Bachelor of Pharmacy curriculum currently being implemented at Maseno University with the first cohort set to

graduate in 2026. The department hopes for future growth with the development of more innovative programmes in fields of Pharmacology and Pharmacognosy that will meet the healthcare and research needs both locally and internationally.
